Kavya Srivatsa // Board Chair
Kavya Srivatsa is a rising senior at Rutgers University, pursuing a Political Science degree and minoring in Labor Studies and Employee Relations. Kavya is extremely passionate about public service and has been closely working with NJPIRG since she transferred to Rutgers as a sophomore. She looks forward to cultivating leadership, inspiring activism, and facilitating change as the Chapter Chair for NJPIRG at Rutgers, New Brunswick.
Oriana Holmes-Price // Board Vice Chair
Oriana Holmes-Price is a senior at Rutgers University-Camden. She is majoring in Political Science with a minor in Legal Studies and currently finishing her certificate in National Security. She first got her start with NJPIRG in the fall of 2018, as a volunteer on the New Voters Project during the Midterm Elections. The following Spring semester, she became the campaign coordinator for the Make Textbooks More Affordable Campaign and went on to serve as the 2019 Rutgers-Camden Chapter Chair and 2019-2020 State Board Vice Chair. She now serves as the 2020-2021 State Board Vice Chair and interim Rutgers-Camden Chapter Chair. She is dedicated to advocacy work and making real change.
Ashanti Howard // Board Treasurer
Ashanti Howard is a Senior at Rutgers University-Camden. She is majoring in Criminal Justice and Political Science with a minor in Theater. She first got involved with NJPIRG as a volunteer on the Make Textbooks more Affordable Campaign during her sophomore year and has worked with the organization ever since to help students like herself make a difference on their campus.
Kristine Hagerthey // Executive Committee Board Member
Kristine Hagerthey is a Senior at Rutgers University-Camden. She is majoring in English and Philosophy with a minor in Finance. She first got involved with NJPIRG as a social media intern on the New Voters Project to help register new voters for the 2021 presidential election. From there she has grown to become this semester social media head for the Camden campus, elected into the student board of the directors, and is a member of the EC. She is now working on the 100% Renewable Energy campaign and is very excited to continue working towards change!
Samantha Gibb // Organizing Director
Sam oversees student leaders on college campuses across New England and directs campus organizing efforts on a variety of public interest issues. In previous roles with CALPIRG Students, she worked with USC and UCLA students to run a grassroots petition drive and city council lobbying campaign to pass a plastic bag ban in Los Angeles, effectively eliminating 3 billion bags from circulation. Over the past nine summers, the canvass offices she has overseen have raised $3 million for nonprofit advocacy groups. Sam lives in Boston where she enjoys biking, swimming and visiting beautiful places around Massachusetts.
Carly Brannan // Lead Organizer
Carly is our lead Campus Organizer working with staff and student leaders at New Brunswick, Camden, and Newark! She graduated from North Carolina State University in 2019 with a BA in Political Science. She got her start working on voting rights and making polling places more accessible to college students, and has worked on NJPIRG Students’ New Voters Project for the past three semesters. This year she is excited to start working on the 100% Renewable Energy campaign here in New Jersey. In her spare time you can find her painting or sitting down with a cup of coffee and a good book.
Pedro Hernandez // Campus Organizer
Pedro is the campus organizer working with student leaders at the NJPIRG chapter in Rutgers Camden! He graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a BA in Politics. He got his start as a member of CALPIRG Students, working on the New Voters Project and eventually becoming the chapter chair. This year, he looks forward to getting Rutgers University to commit to 100% Renewable energy, training new student leaders, and starting law school.
Kaitlyn Mitchell // Campus Organizer
Kaitlyn is the campus organizer working with student leaders at the NJPIRG chapter at Rutgers Newark. She graduated from University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a BS in Natural Resources Conservation. She got her start as a member of MASSPIRG Students, working on the 100% Renewable Energy Campaign. She is excited to build up the leadership team at her chapter and start the 100% Renewable Energy campaign in New Jersey!
Kate Sundberg // Campus Organizer
Kate is the campus organizer working with NJPIRG student leaders at Rutgers New Brunswick. She graduated from Wesleyan University in 2020 with a degree in Chemistry and Environmental Studies. She got her start with organizing as a high school student, mobilizing the Quaker community in Florida to support the Coalition of Immokalee Workers’ Fair Food Campaign. Kate has also worked on the successful campaigns to get PNC Bank to stop financing mountaintop removal coal mining and to get Wesleyan to divest their endowment from fossil fuel investments. She is excited to empower student leaders and work to get Rutgers University committed to 100% renewable energy by 2030!
