Campaign | Higher Ed

Affordable Higher Education

A college degree is practically a necessity these days, not only for the individual student, but for the economic and social health of the country. But as states cut budgets, and grant aid has diminished, students are relying on loans to pay for college.

Campaign | Hunger

Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness

We know we can live in a world where everyone has a roof over their head, enough food to eat and access to clean drinking water. Unfortunately, despite some advances we’re far from this vision.

Campaign | Democracy

End Corporate Money in Politcs

Under current law, corporations and special interests can spend unlimited amounts of money influencing our elections - it's time we take our democracy back!

Campaign | Corporate

Go Green National Geographic

National Geographic is known as a leader in stewardship, so most of their readers would be shocked to learn that while highly respected and perhaps the inspiration for many in the conservation movement, National Geographic lags far behind other publications that you would expect to be on recycled paper, such as AudubonNational Wildlife, and Mother Earth News, as well as those you wouldn’t necessarily expect, like Motorcycle ClassicsFast Company, and Shape.

Campaign | Textbooks

Make Textbooks Affordable

Every student knows that textbook prices are outrageous! Many books cost over $200 a piece and end up worth pennies by the end of the semester, often thanks to unnecessary new editions and pass-codes that expire. It's time for publishers to stop charging ridiculous prices and start taking advantage of today's technology to offer students a better deal. Our campaign is working to increase the use of "open textbooks," which are free online, free to share, and affordable in print -- the ideal publishing model to make textbooks affordable.

Campaign | Textbooks

Make Textbooks Affordable

Everyone knows that textbooks prices are outrageous. Students spend an average of $1,168 a year on textbooks and course materials, and prices have been rising more than for times the rate of inflation for the past two decades!

New Voters Project

The New Voters Project is a nonpartisan effort to help register young people and get them to the polls on Election Day. We believe the best way to get political leaders to pay attention to young people and our issues is to register and vote.

Campaign | Oceans, Water

Protect our Oceans

New Jersey uses over 350 million single-use plastic grocery bags a year.  That's enough to circle the moon almost ten times.  It's time for our cities and boroughs to take action and ban the bag!

Campaign | Energy

Safe Energy

In a time when safe, renewable energy should be made a priority, unwise investments continue to threaten our environment and public health.  Here in New Jersey, most of our energy still comes from dirty sources – such as nuclear power, natural gas, gas and oil.

Campaign | Foods

Stop Subsidizing Obesity

Our tax dollars should only go to things that serve the public good, yet we’re handing out taxpayer subsidies to big agribusinesses to help subsidize junk food. Huge, profitable corporations like Cargill and Monsanto are pocketing tens of billions in taxpayer dollars, and turning subsidized crops into junk food ingredients—including high fructose corn syrup.

Student Consumer Action Network

Campaign

Water Watch

NJPIRG is working on campuses and in communities across the state to address our most pressing urban water quality problems.
