Why 100% Renewable?

Burning oil, gas, and coal has not only polluted our air, water and land for decades - now it’s changing our climate even faster than scientists feared it would. We can still have healthier communities right now and a livable future for kids growing up today. But to get there, we need to transform the way we produce and consume energy. That’s why we’re calling for a commitment to 100 percent renewable power and expanding access to clean energy for all, including people and communities that have been most affected by pollution from our current energy practices. It’s a big, bold goal – and it’s a goal that’s 100 percent possible.

100% Renewable Campuses

In order to shift America away from dirty energy to 100 percent renewable energy, we need to continue to move the concept into the mainstream. A key part of that effort will include working on college and university campuses. College and university campuses are home to important leaders, researchers, and students. College and university campuses have a long history of leading the charge on some of America's most important social movements.

100% Renewable Energy at Rutgers

We’re working to get Rutgers-New Brunswick to commit to 100% renewable energy by 2050, with 100% of electricity coming from renewable sources by 2030. We know it’s an ambitious goal—and it’s going to take a lot longer than one semester. We’re building grassroots support from faculty and students to send a clear message that the Scarlet Knight community is 100% committed to 100% renewables.
